Now that you’ve made that hard decisions about the right hard disk, processor and RAM for your business laptop or desktop computer lets look at some of the issues to consider when selecting your computer monitor (screen).
When purchasing a laptop or desktop, there are many options when it comes to screen size. Laptop screen will start at 9 inches and go up to 17 inches. LCD monitor sizes start at 19 inches and go up to almost as big as you want!
The size of the screen in conjunction with the resolution configuration will determine how much information can be seen at once.
A laptop with a 9 inch screen will give you portability and good battery life but a small viewing area. A laptop with a 17 inch screen will give you a good viewing area, but poor battery life and portability.
Most websites have been designed to be viewed at a resolution of 1024×768 pixels so if you are viewing it on a 9 inch laptop screen, you may need to scroll left and right as well as up and down to view the web page. This can be frustrating and needs to be considered if you are purchasing a laptop for frequent internet browsing.
The best priced monitors (bang for buck) are currently a 22 inch wide screen monitor. These will cost you around the $250 mark. They will allow you to run 2 applications side by side. Desktops and laptops can be run with 2 monitors (laptop screen plus one other). This is really handy for users that need multiple applications running at once as it enables you to spread out over a bigger “desktop” – we all need this!
